obito uchiha

while i was watching naruto, not a single character called out to me until he showed up. he referring to obito uchiha. i love how obito is a parallel to naruto, from initially sharing the same goal and personality right down to their color palettes being inverted. what if naruto had failed in his goal to become hokage? what if naruto fell into the wrong hands? what if naruto had been turned against the shinobi system? those questions are answered in obito uchiha. i loved watching an initial naruto copy be broken down until he became radicalized against the shinobi system after the death of his dear friend. through madara's manipulation, obito had his own clan massacred, murdered naruto's parents, released the 9 tails (thus, setting off the events of the entire series), orchestrated the birth of the akatsuki organization, and collected the tailed beasts all for project tsuki no me. at the core of his character, obito felt the shinobi system under which he and his dear friends suffered from was poisoning the world into an endless cycle of war. thus, he joined madara in enacting project tsuki no me, in which a new world would be built where everyone could be happy and at peace. all the aforementioned aspects made me love the character already, but it was his redemption arc that made me love him even more. after naruto was able to reason with him, obito realized the errors of his ways. while he couldn't undo the massive damage he had dealt to the shinobi world, he aided naruto and his friends in defeating kaguya and ultimately saving kakashi's life through sacrificing his own. his character resonated with me because it showed me that although one may have done downright terrible things in life, there will always be a way to atone for it and grow into a better person.

but aside from that, i love obito's character designs throughout the show. i love all the masks he wears and forms he takes on. obito's abilities are sick to watch (especially kamui). i loved him whether he took on his tobi persona, the madara persona, or was just his plain old self. i find him to be very attractive. i love his eyes (whether normal, sharingan, or rinnegan) and his scars. his love for rin was adorable to watch and painful to see how it ended. most of all i love how central he is to the entire story. i lovelovelove obito so much that i have a real life shrine dedicated to him that i hope to expand one day!
